Bernicia apprentices shine with top awards

Bernicia apprentice Connor Price with Jackie Johnson and Debra Beattie who mentor Bernicia apprentices

Bernicia is celebrating a roll call of apprenticeships honours which confirm our commitment to give young people the opportunity to develop and grow their skills within our business.

Apprenticeships open up a world of career opportunities to young people and provide huge value to businesses, who can nurture the next generation of talented employees to take their company forward.

Bernicia’s talented pool of 13 apprentices – and their mentors – have scooped a number of awards recognising their dedication and ability.

Second year plumbing apprentice Connor Price, 18, was honoured as runner-up in the STEM Apprentice of the Year Award at Northumberland College’s Apprenticeship Awards.

Connor joined Bernicia two years ago from school and has impressed everyone in the business with his ‘can-do’ attitude and determination to succeed.

The awards mark the college’s and Bernicia’s commitment to National Apprenticeships Week.

Jackie Johnson, Office Services Team Leader, and Debra Beattie, Head of Organisational Development, jointly won the Jacqui Henderson Apprenticeship Advocate Award to formally acknowledge the exceptional support they give Connor and our 12 other apprentices currently working for Bernicia.

Bernicia works closely with Northumberland College and Newcastle College to deliver its apprenticeship programme, mentoring young people to give them the skills they need to qualify as trained plasterers, business administrators, joiners, plumbers and bricklayers.

And huge congratulations from all at Bernicia to Chloe Irving who was officially recognised as one of the top apprentices in Newcastle College’s Apprenticeship Awards.

Chloe, Business Apprentice at Kingston Property Services, was named as runner-up in the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year category at a ceremony in Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.

The audience was told of Chloe’s journey since joining Bernicia from school at 16, and of her maturity and professionalism in everything she does.

The Newcastle College Apprenticeship Awards recognise and celebrate the success of apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces and those who go above and beyond to champion apprenticeships.

The awards, held during National Apprenticeship Week, provide a platform for apprentices and employers to share their stories and successes on how apprenticeships have made a real difference and significant contribution to the organisation.
