Domestic Abuse Policy

This policy explains how we respond to domestic abuse and the support available if you are affected. Domestic abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial or controlling behaviour, and it can happen to anyone. We do not tolerate domestic abuse, and we are committed to taking action to support victims and address harmful behaviour.

We will always take a sensitive, victim-centred approach. If you report concerns, we will treat you with respect, keep your information confidential where possible, and make sure you receive the right support and advice. We may also work with other services to help keep you safe, particularly where there are safeguarding concerns or risk to children or vulnerable people.

What this means for you:

If you need help, we will support you in a way that works for you:

  • We will listen and respond sensitively to your situation
  • We can help you stay in your home by putting extra safety measures in place
  • If you need to leave, we will support you to find safe temporary or alternative accommodation
  • We will signpost you to specialist support services and encourage reporting to the police where appropriate

We will take appropriate and proportionate action against anyone causing harm, which may include working with other agencies or taking legal action where necessary. In some cases, we may also offer support to help change behaviour where it is safe and appropriate to do so. Our overall aim is to protect you, support your safety and wellbeing, and ensure everyone can live in a safe environment.
