Ashkirk Referral Initial Assessment and Allocation Policy

This policy sets out Bernicia’s approach for handling referrals, assessing applications, and allocating accommodation at Ashkirk.

This policy sets out how families are referred to, assessed for, and allocated accommodation within the Ashkirk Family Wraparound Service. It aims to ensure that all referrals are considered fairly and consistently, with accommodation and support services prioritised for families who have the greatest housing and support needs.

Referrals are made through Sunderland City Council’s Housing Options Team and are assessed against agreed eligibility criteria. As part of the process, Bernicia carries out needs and risk assessments to determine whether the service is suitable and to identify the most appropriate accommodation and support package.

The policy also explains how accommodation is allocated, how risks are managed, and how applicants can appeal if their referral is unsuccessful. Overall, it is designed to ensure accommodation is allocated safely, transparently, and to those most in need.
