Are you ready to take on an exciting challenge where every day is different? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments, where your skills and determination will ensure families are given homes they can be proud of? Then our Housing Officer (Voids) role is for you.

Role Benefits:

  • 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) for full time employees
  • Working from home up to 2 days per week.
  • Health cash plan membership so you can save money by claiming cash back – over £1000 each year - towards essential healthcare such as dental, optical, physio and loads more.  We’ll also cover the costs of including any dependent children in the scheme – up to the age of 21 or 24 if in full time education – that you may have.
  • Access to savings on gym memberships plus cash back and discounts on purchases from major retailers including supermarkets, travel, cinema and more.
  • Generous pension scheme with life insurance of 3 x salary

About the Role:

You will be based at our head office in Ashington, covering Berwick, South East Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle but with flexibility to cover other areas of the region such as Durham when required.

This is not your typical 9-5 desk job. You will be at the heart of readying our properties for the next stage of their journeys, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, and ready for residents to move in. Key responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):

  • Inspecting vacant properties and coordinating necessary works to ensure they are "ready to let" (RTL).
  • Collaborating with contractors, social services, energy suppliers, and internal departments to bring homes back into use quickly and efficiently.
  • Keeping meticulous records, tracking progress on systems like QL, and chasing updates when needed.
  • Managing void energy transfers and resolving supply issues, liaising with suppliers like British Gas.
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation including EPCs, gas safety certificates, EICRs, and cleaning records are in place.

About You:

Energy. Passion. Commitment. We need someone with a razor-sharp focus, strong organisational skills, and a drive to make meaningful contributions. Think you have what it takes?

You’ll need:

  • Experience and knowledge of working within a housing, property or building management environment
  • The ability to coordinate between multiple teams and external stakeholders under daily deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and an eye for detail particularly in relation to repairs and maintenance and health and safety to ensure nothing slips through the cracks.

About us:

  • We’re all about helping people in need of housing.  We believe a good home makes lots of other things possible, so we provide great homes and services that do just that.
  • We’ve built Bernicia to be a business that people want to be a part of.  We’re one of the North East’s largest and most successful housing providers; building, renting, selling and managing homes as well as providing services to over 60,000 customers.
  • Everything about Bernicia is people focused, that’s why we’ve held the Investors in People Gold Award since 2010.
  • We operate within a set of simple, but effective values, which blend perfectly to create our unique ‘Bernicia Way’ culture. This ensures we are customer focused, through working together, respecting each other, being accountable for our actions and demonstrating integrity and leadership.

At Bernicia Homes, we deliver more than just houses; we create places people are proud to call home. Now, we’re looking for a standout individual to join our Void Inspections team, a dynamic role where attention to detail meets purpose-driven work.

Please note you will be required to drive for business. You will be required to hold a current and valid driving licence.
