Hours:           37 per week (Mon – Fri).

Salary:           £24,445 per annum (plus 5.5% from 1st April 2024).

About the role:

Bernicia’s Handyperson Service is based in County Durham and aims to provide practical support to clients in the form of minor adaptations, advice, home safety checks and signposting to residents who may have a disability, be at high risk of falls or are generally vulnerable in other ways. This service enables these residents to maintain their independence, health, and well-being in their own homes for as long as possible.

This post offers an opportunity for you to work as part of a team assisting in the delivery of these services. The primary focus of the role is to support clients to remain safe and independent in their homes through the installation of a range of Adaptation equipment. Types of equipment used would include installing external handrails, building concrete steps as well as flag and brick steps. Building and installing step kit units, fitting banister rails, grab rails and key safes.

About you:

This is a physically demanding role due to the types of adaptation work we undertake. You will be often working outside in inclement weather independently across County Durham. You will routinely liaise with Occupational therapists and a range of other health and social care referrers in order to respond appropriately for clients. We would expect you to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills so you can work effectively with our clients and referrers. 

You must be self-motivated, proactive, able to organise your time effectively. You must have a good understanding and awareness of safe working practices. We only want motivated people who are ready to get stuck in and make a positive difference.
