Bernicia’s Handyperson Service is based in County Durham and aims to provide practical support to clients in the form of minor adaptations, advice, home safety checks and signposting to residents who may have a disability, be at high risk of falls or are generally vulnerable in other ways. This service enables these residents to maintain their independence, health and well-being in their own homes for as long as possible.

This post offers an opportunity for you to work as part of a team assisting in the delivery of these services. The primary focus of the role is to support clients to remain safe and independent in their homes through the installation of a range of Minor Adaptation equipment. Types of equipment used would include installation of grab rails, internal and external handrails. We also carry out step adaptations utilising both brick and flag and concrete work.

You will often be working remotely across County Durham. You will routinely liaise with Occupational therapists and a range of other health and social care referrers in order to respond appropriately for clients. We would expect you to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills so you can work effectively with our clients and referrers.

You must be self-motivated, proactive, able to organise your time effectively. You must have a good understanding and awareness of safe working practices.
