The safety and well-being of our residents are our top priorities.
As part of our on-going commitment to fire safety, our Building Safety and Bernicia Living teams are delivering a series of fire safety and inspection events across all 26 Bernicia Living age exclusive living locations.
These events are designed to help residents understand essential fire safety measures and each step we take to keep their homes safe.
Key Areas of Fire Safety Covered
During these sessions, we focused on:
Fire Door Inspections – ensuring doors are fit for purpose and provide essential protection.
Fire Risk Assessments – keeping residents informed about identified risks and our mitigation strategies.
False Alarm Reduction – educating residents on preventing unnecessary callouts and ensuring real emergencies are prioritised.
Fire Safety Advice – providing practical tips and resources, including our “Staying Safe in Your Home” leaflet.
Community Engagement – creating an open space for discussions over tea and biscuits, allowing residents to ask questions and share concerns.
Fire safety is a shared responsibility.
Our events are attended by key colleagues and residents alike, reinforcing the importance of fire procedures, particularly in flats and communal areas. By working together, we can ensure everyone understands their role in staying safe.
We’ve received great feedback from our latest fire safety and inspection event at Willow Vale in Bedlington.
Resident Derek Taylor said: “I’m reassured, and I appreciate the updates on the investment Bernicia is making in our safety.”
Sylvia Coates said: “Everybody needs to know about safety. If there was a fire in my flat, I now know exactly what to do.”
And Ronald Fuller added: “The staff here are absolutely brilliant. They’re always helpful, and we know we can reach out if we need them.”
By continuing these conversations, we ensure that fire safety remains a priority for all. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far— we look forward to engaging with even more residents in future.
