Building communities of H.O.P.E.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome in their home and community.

This National Hate Crime Awareness Week, we’re joining organisations across the country to stand together against hate and support this year’s H.O.P.E. campaign.

H.O.P.E. stands for Hate Crime Awareness, Operational Responses, Prevention and Engagement. It’s a reminder that by listening, supporting one another and taking action, we can help create safer, stronger and more inclusive communities.

Hate crime can affect people because of their race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity. It can take many forms, including threats, harassment, physical violence and damage to property.

We believe everyone should feel safe and have a sense of belonging in the place they call home. Hate and discrimination have no place in our homes or neighbourhoods.

We have a dedicated team of housing professionals who work across local communities, supporting people who are experiencing the trauma of hate crime.

Our team is focused on victims and has strong working relationships with partners including police and local authorities, to successfully tackle issues blighting people’s lives.

If you’re a Bernicia tenant suffering hate crime or any form of anti-social behaviour, please contact our Safer Communities Team here https://www.bernicia.com/help-and-support/keeping-you-safe/your-safety/anti-social-behaviour/ or email us at contact@bernicia.com.

Together, we can make a difference. Whether it’s challenging prejudice, looking out for neighbours or speaking up when something isn’t right, small actions can help build communities where everyone feels valued.

Let’s choose kindness over hate, celebrate our differences and work together to build communities filled with H.O.P.E.

Because everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
