A wonderful day at Chillingham House celebrating 30 years since our retirement living location in Sunderland first opened its doors to tenants.
And a special day for Audrey Rooks (pictured left) who has lived at the ever-popular location near Roker seafront for all those years.
Bernicia Location Officer Ros Aitkenhead (pictured right) presented Audrey, 95, with an orchid and her favourite Milk Tray chocolates as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations at Chillingham House.
Tenants, family and staff enjoyed a special lunch and classic pop song entertainment at the Bernicia Living location which is home to 47 people.
Audrey said: “I’ve made some really good friends here down the years and the staff are lovely – we all like Ros!”
Paul White, Bernicia Head of Retirement Living, said: “Chillingham House is a hugely popular location right next to the beach, with all of its amenities and shops.
“It’s got a strong community who are very much engaged with life here and today is a great opportunity to celebrate what it means for the people who live here.”
Location Officer Jackie Harrison, who has worked at Chillingham House for 22 years, said: “I love it here, I love meeting all the different people who live here.
“You get to meet so many nice people with such interesting lives and stories to tell.”
Former location co-ordinator Carol Watson, who retired last year after 29 years working at Chillingham House, was a special guest at the celebration. “I do still miss the place, I had a house here and there were so many people who made this place special.”
