Converting properties to meet local demand

We’re putting the finishing touches to work to convert four bedsits into two family homes to meet local demand in a popular Northumberland town.

The two bedroom neighbouring Bernicia homes in Bothal Avenue, Guidepost, are nearly ready to be advertised for rent after a six-month major refurbishment programme led by our property team.

The homes were previously divided into four bedsits which proved difficult to let in an area where there is a high demand for family properties.

Their refurbishment is just one example of our £62m major works programme in action, to continue to improve our existing homes and neighbourhoods, listening to our tenants and working to meet their needs.

Both properties have been transformed by our property team led by our head of property Ryan Irving-Carr, supported by programme manager Mark Brewis, project manager Jonathan Reeder-Scott and clerk of the works Nick Riordan. Mark and Jonathan are pictured outside the refurbished properties.

Conversion work comprised:

  • New kitchens in both homes
  • Internal walls replaced to open out four bedsits into two, two bedroom homes
  • New flooring downstairs in both properties
  • Both properties fully rewired
  • New boilers and central heating systems with new radiators in both homes
  • Downstairs wet rooms and separate upstairs bathrooms in both properties
  • Full redecoration and new doors fitted internally

Mark said: “We’re just applying the final touches to both homes which have been transformed by our team working with our contractors Sendrig.

“We know from listening to our tenants that there is a strong demand especially from families for properties of this type in this popular estate in Guidepost.

“Both homes benefit from hard standing parking areas outside the front of the house as well as large back gardens which are south facing.

“We look forward to seeing both these houses welcoming new tenants who we think will be proud to call them home.”

The two homes are not available to rent yet, but should be made available to do so through the Northumberland Homefinder website next month, where Bernicia advertises all its properties. www.northumberlandhomefinder.org.uk

People who have registered their details on the Northumberland Homefinder website will be able to view and bid for the properties when they are advertised next month.
