Congratulations to apprentices Alfie and Anthony (pictured) for their outstanding work helping RE:GEN North East successfully deliver a £5m refurbishment contract at hundreds of Bernicia homes.
Anthony successfully completed his Level 2 Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery earlier in the summer while working on this project and Alfie, studying a plastering apprenticeship, was named British Gypsum Student of the Year at Newcastle College.
His 100% attendance, enthusiasm and outstanding work quality earned him the award.
They’ve been a fantastic part of the delivery team and show that the future of our industry is in safe hands!
Bernicia is partnering with our friends at RE:GEN North East, investing more than £5m into upgrading hundreds of our homes across North Northumberland, Houghton-le-Spring and Thornley in County Durham.
RE:GEN North East is on course to complete work in 527 homes, including fitting 132 new kitchens and 128 new bathrooms, shower rooms and cloakrooms, as well as new heating systems and front and back doors.
The work is part of a rolling stock investment programme delivering improvements to properties from Northumberland to Teesside.
It forms part of our overall four-year commitment to invest £220m in new and existing homes.
Our assets team is working on the 2026-27 and 2027-28 stock investment programmes to upgrade more homes identified in our stock condition surveys.
