Bernicia team win top green energy award

A great win for our Assets and Property service – officially honoured in the North East of England Energy Efficiency Awards as the top housing association/landlord of the year.

Our talented team was also highly commended for the delivery of our two-year £10.2m retrofit programme, which includes our £8m social housing decarbonisation project with renewable energy specialists 0800 Repair.

Around 1,300 of our tenants’ homes were fitted with energy efficiency measures, such as solar PV panels and air source heat pumps – tailored to fit the requirements of each property, making them warmer and cutting fuel bills.

Over this period, the team captured £5.9m of external grant and funding to support the delivery of our retrofit ambitions, further enabled by our Board’s decision to accelerate our programme and deliver 90% of our homes to an EPC rating at or above ‘C’ by March 2026.

This has helped us to deliver our target ahead of the March 2026 deadline and be ahead of the curve in comparison with other housing sectors.

Many congratulations to our team!
