A new partnership is aiming to bring transformative change to Ashington – and is seeking the public’s views to help do it.
Made up of business, public sector and community leaders – the Ashington Town Board will develop an ambitious investment plan for the town. The board will work with the community and both county and town councils to deliver change, while also celebrating and promoting what makes Ashington unique.
The board has launched a new website – www.northumberland.gov.uk/ashingtonip – and an online survey ahead of drafting the Ashington Investment Plan. The local community are being asked to comment on it, as well as feedback on the best and worst aspects of the town.
The feedback will be used to prioritise things that need to change.
The investment plan will help cement the vision, objectives and priority themes for the town, and help identify the challenges people in Ashington would like addressed. Over the coming weeks a range of projects will then be developed, with further consultation on these planned for the Autumn.
The town board is committed to feeding back to its residents and stakeholders the findings of the consultation and a summary report will be published on the website.
John Johnston, Chief Executive of Bernicia and Chair of the Ashington Town Board, said: “This can be a truly great time for Ashington, and I would encourage members from every aspect of our community to engage in this consultation so that we can start to build a plan that reflects what the community of Ashington really needs and deserves.”
Councillor Wojciech Ploszaj, Northumberland County Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, said: “I am delighted to see the efforts of the county council focusing firmly on Ashington, as we identify the needs of the community and start to match them with the opportunities for investment in our ambitious investment plan.”
Bernicia has become the first organisation outside the public sector to sign a Northumberland County Council pledge to help young people leaving care achieve their ambitions. The council’s Care Leaver Covenant 2023+ renews the local authority’s promise to provide care-experienced young people aged 16…
