Antisocial Behaviour Policy

Everyone has the right to enjoy their home and to live the way that they choose, providing it does not affect the quality of life of others. This policy will ensure that we adopt a victim-centred approach to tackling ASB that is fair, transparent and proportionate.

Bernicia’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Policy explains how the organisation prevents, investigates and responds to behaviour that causes harassment, alarm, distress or nuisance within its communities. It sets out what is considered ASB and clarifies that some everyday neighbour disputes and lifestyle differences would not normally be treated as ASB.

The policy makes it easy for anyone to report ASB and commits to timely responses, confidential handling of cases, and support for those affected. Each case is assessed based on the level of harm and risk involved, with action plans put in place to address issues and protect victims.

Bernicia will use a range of measures to tackle ASB, from early intervention and mediation through to legal action where necessary. The organisation also works with partner agencies, supports vulnerable residents, and uses performance monitoring and customer feedback to continually improve services and help create safe, respectful communities.
