New homes ahead of target

Residents are enjoying warmer homs on Durham's Sherburn Road estate thanks to a £1m repairs programme led by Bernicia, Esh Living and Roberta Blackman-Woods MP

Building the quality new houses people are proud to call home is one of our key strategic objectives – and the good news is we’re ahead of target to deliver on our promises.

We planned to start building 70 new homes with our partners on site in the last financial year 2018-19, but this figure increased to 116 properties by taking advantage of opportunities that came our way.

The new homes built include those by our in-house direct build team at West End, Ashington, and with Able Construction at Hebburn. On top of this we purchased properties from house builders being constructed at schemes including East Benton Rise, Newbottle, Morpeth and Blyth.

This is great for the North East as we strive to reach our target of building 600 new homes by 2023, responding to our diverse regional housing markets and householders’ needs.

And it helps meet our pledge in the Corporate Strategy to build new homes year on year, invest in neighbourhoods and communities and maintain the quality of existing properties.
