We’re supporting the national #HomesAtTheHeart campaign aimed at pushing the agenda for more government investment in UK social housing.

The coronavirus crisis has undoubtedly increased awareness of the importance of good homes, strong communities, and the right care and support. And with that comes a huge opportunity for all of us in the housing sector to push the agenda nationally for more investment in social housing.

Today (June 25) sees the launch of #HomesAtTheHeart – a national campaign and coalition that will see us working with the National Housing Federation and other organisations over the next few months on a campaign with a simple message: Homes have been at the heart of this crisis. Now they can, and should, be at the heart of our recovery.

John Johnston, chief executive at Bernicia, said: “Never has having a safe place to call home been more important. Our homes provide the foundation from which people and communities can thrive and our services are there to help those who need them most”.

“But we know that the need for quality housing always has and always will be there. Quality social housing should be at the heart of the nation’s economic and social recovery from the impact of Coronavirus, and quality social housing should now, more than ever, be viewed as a national asset. This campaign could be the catalyst for positive change, helping to secure the investment that’s needed to provide people with homes, services and support for generations to come.”
