Apprentices begin working lives at Bernicia

Six new apprentices have begun their working lives at Bernicia as part of the housing association’s commitment to invest in local people and communities.

Bernicia has welcomed more than 50 apprentices into its business over the past seven years, into posts such as trades, business administration, housing assistants, finance and customer services.

Our latest apprentices Anna, Wayne, Drew, Joshua, Andrew and Liam will work under the guidance of mentor Jackie Johnson.

They will work as joiners, electricians, plasterers, multi-skilled tradespeople and housing assistants in our Berwick, Durham and Ashington offices.

Bernicia works closely with North East schools, colleges and businesses to improve employability opportunities for young people, delivering its acclaimed Runway Programme to support the future workforce and raise aspirations. A high percentage of the 15 apprentices who currently work at Bernicia are drawn from the Runway programme.

Several managers at Bernicia began their careers as apprentices, shining examples of how opening the door to opportunity secures local talent who will drive the company forward in future.
