Work has started on site on a new £8m contemporary living complex for the over 55s in Cramlington, Northumberland.
The Bernicia scheme is being delivered by Gateshead-based contractor Tolent on our behalf, with grant support from Homes England, and will create 60 new homes for rent and shared ownership.
Rosebrough Court will provide a variety of high quality homes that comprises 48 self-contained apartments, four Tyneside flats and eight bungalows.
With long-term living solutions in mind, the design of the homes ensure appropriate wheelchair access and facilities for people with mobility and visual impairments are catered for, meaning the facilities on site can be used by all.
Michael Farr, Bernicia Executive Director of Assets and Growth, said: “This high quality Bernicia development is specifically designed with the long-term living needs of people aged over 55 in mind.
“It will provide the security of a great home in a close-knit community, with access to superb retail facilities in Cramlington just a short walk away and excellent transport links to Newcastle.
“The scheme is also providing a valuable boost to the local economy with skilled full-time construction jobs and apprenticeship opportunities.”
With a commitment to communities, Tolent has outlined targets to engage with local schools and colleges and create employment opportunities on site including work placements, apprenticeships and short and long term work.
Chris Price, regional director for Tolent, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Bernicia again to deliver a scheme that we know is going to make a real difference.
“As well as our commitment to delivering a high quality construction project, our community work also comes with a strong commitment to ensure we leave a lasting legacy and we look forward to building some great relationships with those who live and work in the area.”
Councillor Veronica Jones, said: “I am delighted to see this development moving forward. It is important that more homes for the over 55’s are created to ensure accessibility for all, but also to give people the opportunity to stay local to their communities and near to family, friends and further support.”
Tolent completed The Cheviots Retirement Village for Bernicia in 2017. The modern apartment complex in Ashington provides seven houses, 40 apartments and 57 bungalows, as-well-as a range of communal facilities, including: laundrette, library, restaurant, social area and games rooms.
The Cramlington project is due to finish in late Summer 2021.
