Bernicia has been named as the only company in the region to be shortlisted for this year’s Investors in People Apprentice Employer of the Year (500+) Award.
Shortlisted in this newly established Award, Bernicia is one of only four organisations in the country to be selected and will attend the national awards ceremony and dinner in London on Thursday 23 November.
The shortlisting comes in the fifth year of Bernicia’s flourishing apprenticeship programme, which saw 12 new apprentices appointed in September.
Andrea Malcolm, group assistant director for people and business support said: “Bernicia prides itself on its strong apprenticeship programme which has an excellent reputation for delivering quality apprenticeships. Our apprentices bring innovation and enthusiasm and mixing this with experience is the recipe for our current and future success”.
“Our apprenticeships are an integral part of our workforce planning and our largest area of recruitment, making up 50% of staff recruited over the last five years. In fact, we have seen a 100 per cent completion rate since the programme began, and 85 per cent of our apprentices have chosen to move into permanent positions within the organisation following completion of their apprenticeships.
The Investors in People Awards celebrate businesses that lead, support and develop apprentices well to achieve outstanding results, benefitting individual apprentices and the entire organisation.
In addition to being shortlisted for the Apprentice Employer of the Year Award in its inaugural year, Bernicia has also once again achieved Gold accreditation for the third consecutive time, just nine months after a merger with Four Housing.
The news follows another achievement for Bernicia, which was recognised as the North East Top 200’s Highest Climber – moving up 58 places.
